Health Benefits : #1 Salads

Up to 60% of the human adult body is water. According Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%. Each day humans must consume a certain amount of water to survive. Of course, this varies according to age and gender, and also by where someone lives. Generally, an adult male needs about 3 liters per day while an adult female needs about 2.2 liters per day. All of the water a person needs does not have to come from drinking liquids, as some of this water is contained in the food we eat. This is the reason why salads must be an integral part of our diet.

Although everyone is making salad at home so there is nothing new but while I was at Isha yoga centre, Coimbatore, we were served a whole lot of varieties salads which took about 70% of our meal. I loved them and they were really fulfilling. Here are few salads I have tried at home which are healthy and tasty. Cutting small pieces or grating help in easy consumption of salads by all, especially children who are fussy and don’t chew properly. They can be eaten by aged people with teeth problems.

You have choice to ignore one or two ingredients not liked by you or any of your family members.

One more thing which I found interesting was the use of soaked peanuts in many salads. Like soaked almonds there are lot of health benefits of soaked peanuts. Peanuts being more economical in cost than almonds are accessible to almost all the class of people. For further information read Health Benefits : #2 Soaked Peanuts
